Karimeen Pollichathu Recipe | How To Make Kerala Karimeen Pollichathu

Karimeen Pollichathu – Karimeen pollichathu (pearl spot) is one of the most popular foods of Kerala. Karimeen which is cooked by covering in banana leaves after covering the fish with masala.

INGREDIENTS
 
1 nos Pearl Spot / Karimeen
1 1/2 nos Onion (sliced)
5-6 nos Shallots (sliced)
1 nos Tomato small size (chopped)
2 nos Green chillies (slit)
1 tsp Ginger (crushed)
1 tsp Garlic (crushed)
1/2 tbsp Kashmiri Chilly powder
1 tsp Red chilli powder
2 tsp Pepper powder
1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
2 sprinkle Curry Leaves
Salt To taste
Coconut oil As required
3 nos kudampuli (Malabar Tamarind,cocum) (soaked in water)
To marinate fish
1 tsp Kashmiri Chilly powder
1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
1/2 tsp Pepper
1 tsp Lime juice (optional)
Salt To taste

INSTRUCTIONS
 
Marinate the fish with red Kashmiri chilly powder, pepper powder, turmeric powder, lime juice, and salt. Keep aside for 15-20 min.
Heat a pan with 1/2 tsp coconut oil, and lightly sear two sides of fish, probably two minute. keep it aside.
Slice the onions, shallots, grate ginger, garlic, and tomatoes.
In another pan, heat 1 tbsp coconut oil, add in curry leaves.
Add the onions, shallots, green chilly, ginger, and garlic, saute for two minutes. Then add in the red chilli powder, Kashmiri chilly powder, turmeric, pepper powder, salt and mix well.
Saute it until the tomatoes are incorporated and all mixed, and cocum to this with 1 cup of water and boil them. when the mixture attains a thick consistency Switch off the stove and keep aside.
Lightly heat a plantain leaf on fire top.
Now to the fish, place one sprig of curry leaf. Place half of the masala on top of it. Then place the fish on top of it and place another sprig of curry leaf. And then top it with the rest of the masala. Fold in from all 4 sides. And make it into a packet, it tightly with a string.
Heat a tawa with little coconut oil, place the packet on top. Cover and cook on low flame for 5 minutes on either side. Serve hot.
