In Margao, FC Goa exhibited a commanding performance throughout the encounter, securing a comprehensive win over Chennaiyin FC in their Indian Super League match on Saturday.
This defeat signifies Chennaiyin FC's sixth consecutive match without a win, with their last triumph occurring on December 11 against Hyderabad FC.
FC Goa maintained a firm grip on the match, controlling 58.6 percent of possession and registering eight shots on target, whereas Chennaiyin FC was unable to record any attempts on goal.
Iker Guarrotxena initiated the scoring for FC Goa with a sharp instinct in the six-yard box. Following a corner, Boris Singh received the ball on the right flank and delivered a cross that was mishandled by Chennaiyin FC goalkeeper Mohammed Nawaz. Brison Fernandes capitalized on the opportunity, but his shot struck the woodwork. Guarrotxena quickly reacted, seizing the loose ball and slotting it into the top center of the goal in the 11th minute.
Nawaz partially redeemed himself six minutes later when Aakash Sangwan made a rapid run into the box and unleashed a shot from a tight angle on the left. Nawaz managed to stretch and deflect the shot, averting another goal. However, Sangwan found the net in the 26th minute, scoring from an even more difficult angle.
The Gaurs' gameplay resembled a meticulously orchestrated strategy, with Guarrotxena consistently applying pressure on the Chennaiyin FC defense. He briefly disrupted the flow by passing backward to Carl McHugh, who, unmarked, executed a lobbed ball over the Chennaiyin FC backline.
